Readin' My Stories...

I mean, reading my blogs. My stories. My homies. I'm hooked. They're like soap operas, but um, on the computer. I wish I had a muumuu on right now.

I started out as just wanting a place to document my motherhood feelings and my child's monthly updates to share with friends and family, but now I can't get enough of ye olde blogging thing. I mean - I'll go a week and not get a spare second to read other people's blogs, but then, I'll sit down for hours and just read. Forget the TV, TV's so 90's... When we're blogging, we're reading about real people's lives here. And the content does not have to be approved by a major broadcast network. You can kiss our arses, FOX, NBC, and CBS. We don't need ya anymore.

Blogging is an amazing phenomenon to me. I've found more things in common and connected with people that I've never met and probably never will than I have with most of my real life friends. (Sorry, real life friends, if you're reading this - but honestly, most of you are just not as interesting and funny as my geekie friends on-line.) And that's another thing! I'm not a geek! I swear! OKAY, maybe a little. Okay, so a lot. But you don't have to be a geek to be a blogger. I'm serious you don't.

Okay, so I'm not going to drop all my friends and just read blogs all day, but I am seriously amazed on how quickly I've found people with so much in common with me. I don't even know what most of these people look like, but I know more about them then I probably should.

It makes me wonder - is it normal to have these cyber-relationships with people? Is knowing so much about someone you've never met and probably never will going to play tricks with the mind?

Yesterday afternoon, my Mac addict husband was watching Apple's CEO give his keynote speech online, and insisted I cease folding laundry in the other room and come watch and listen to what Steve Jobs had to say. He was talking about the future of podcasting and the speed of the new Macs with the Intel processor and I just stood there watching in awe, realizing how much the world has changed in the last year and how much it's about to change even more. We mere little people here on this earth now have the power to voice our words, pictures, video, and vocal chords to the WORLD and connect with those whom we'd NEVER EVER EVER connect with otherwise.

Man, I want me my very own brand new Powerbook G5. Nobody else's. My very own. My precccccioooosssss..... I mentioned that I wanted one to Jeremy, knowing that the chances of me getting one anytime soon are about as likely as a free trip to Mars, and a bit later that day, he very nonchalantly asks me: "So, do you want me to go ahead and order you a new laptop?" He has a tendency to ask "Can I Buy New Things" questions like this... He tried to sneak it in so I wouldn't notice, like:

Him: "Would you like chicken for dinner tonight?"

Me: "Yeah."

Him: "Is Kyra in the living room with you?"

Me: "Yeah."

Him: "So, should I just go ahead and order (you) that G5 now?"

Me: "Yeah. Wait. NO!"

Sneaky devil he is.

So, thanks to all my commenters who read my blog, and thanks to all the blogs out there of whom I read. It's amazing to me how a kind comment or some thoughtful advice can make my day. And who woulda thunk. Some stranger who's involved in my life and changing my life.

My sweet, dear, fabulous mother doesn't understand this blogging nonsense. She tells me it's just strange to put my thoughts out there so unprivately and say words like FUCK and POOP and talk about BOOBS. Well, mom, read what I just wrote and hopefully you can understand a bit more.

Blogs are changing the web, they're changing business, they're changing politics, and they're changing me.

Oh, and I have a new favorite blog and I have NO IDEA HOW I FOUND IT. He scares me but he's funny and smart and I think I may have seen him before in the deli section at Village Market.

I totally agree. Sometimes I feel closer to my blog friends than some of my real friends. We let each other read our innermost thoughts. And when I know someone has something critical going on, I can't wait to go and get the latest updates. It's more suspenseful than a mystery novel.

Man, I really have got to change that picture. This is the second blog I've come across today that thinks I'm all scary looking and stuff. I keep looking at it and scratching my head because I think I look all friendly and happy and slightly bemused. Good thing I'm not an actor.

Oh, and hardly anyone has any idea how they found my blog. I'm like a bad penny that way. ;-)

yea blogging is pretty cool that way. So many truly interesting people out there. . .

Yeah, I am Blogger Geek as well, funny I JUST wrote something about that myself in my Blog. God forbid I should get some fresh air when there is a new entry to read! LOL

Hey, I really enjoy your writing. I stopped by via SEB via SFTR. And I am glad I did!

Thanks to you for existing!

It's crazy how often I start a conversation with my husband by saying, "One of the blog girls . . . "

I wish we could all get a paid week off of work and meet somewhere -- in some big convention center or something -- and have a big blogapalooza. Bloggers! In real life! What fun.

As Molly said "It's crazy how often I start a conversation with my husband by saying, 'One of the blog girls . . . ' "

I totally do that.. My DH doesn't really get it.. though he will go online and anonymosuly comment, and think he is all cute and sarcastic and witty...

I like the new blog of the scary guy... he is pretty funny, and yes sacred cows do make the tastiest hamburgers... I used to be Hindu, I should know.

I feel the same way about the blogs I read and yours is one of them. Thanks for the laughs!

i've been feeling the same way. it's sooo bizarre that i started blogging to have something to do at work...when i'm bored. now, i blog even when i have a pile of stuff to do. and i'm constantly thinking in my head....i am soooo going to blog about this...whenever something funny happens!

it could be worse, you could be addicted to CHATTING or EBAY!
wish i had more time to read blogs, unfortunately. of course i have dialup so that doesn't help either!

I feel the same way, of course. My husband is understanding but really doesn't get it either. His loss!

We love you, too, man!

My husband gets it; he totally sees the attraction and he regularly tells me what nice people I have commenting on my blog.

Hi! Found your blog through Trisha. :)

I loved this post, I too am amazed at this incredible opportunity that we're given to "meet" people from all over the world, with whom we'd probably never speak otherwise (if only because of our external differences or various life stages, even if we lived close by).

Julie: hee hee, I so know what you mean, I suspect that I'll stay pretty pasty this summer, due to this blogging addiction of mine!

Kira: I'm a dual addict...LOL blogging and eBay, fortunately I kicked the chatting habit a few years back... ;) (I'm still on dialup too, I feel your pain!)

Dawn : About your comment "So many truly interesting people out there..." : I totally agree with you. And I'd take it one step further: these bloggers are just normal people who've gotten the courage to just be open about themselves online. Just imagine how many stories could be discovered in the people around us, if we gave ourselves the permission/had the guts to just be ourselves with one another, in real life. I mean, yeah, we must be careful in choosing who to open up to, not everyone is a considerate listener or trustworthy confidante, but I really think that we ought to give people more of a chance, in general.

Anyway, glad to have found this blog and all of you who are commenting on it, will definitely be back! :)

I found you by clicking on blogrolls of my favorite blogs. I enjoy reading your site and hope you visit mine too.
